Hybrid Power is Coming: Kia Confirms Seltos Hybrid for Global Rollout banner

The future of fuel efficiency is looking brighter – and more electrified – at Tynan Kia Sutherland, with Kia officially confirming a hybrid version of the next-generation Seltos small SUV as part of its ambitious global electrification plans.

Already a favourite among Aussie drivers, the Kia Seltos is set to level up with hybrid power, joining a growing list of eco-friendly options in Kia’s lineup. And while official confirmation for Australia is still pending, all signs point to the hybrid Seltos making its way to local showrooms soon.

🌱 Kia Doubles Down on Hybrid Strategy

Unveiled during an investor presentation in South Korea, Kia’s latest strategy outlines a bold plan to introduce 10 hybrid models globally by 2030, with the Seltos hybrid sitting front and centre.

“In response to changing customer preferences for low-carbon and fuel-efficient vehicles, we are expanding our hybrid line-up,” Kia’s report stated. “From Seltos to Telluride, we’ll meet transitional demand with efficient hybrid options.”

This move reflects Kia’s commitment to meet Australia’s National Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), which will require a shift away from non-turbo petrol models in favour of hybrids and electric alternatives.

🚗 What to Expect from the Seltos Hybrid

While technical specs haven’t been confirmed for the Seltos hybrid, it’s likely to share the same underpinnings and powertrain as the Hyundai Kona Hybrid, given Kia’s place in the Hyundai Motor Group.

That means the Seltos Hybrid could offer:

  • A 1.6-litre petrol engine with 77kW/144Nm
  • A 32kW/170Nm electric motor
  • A combined output of 104kW/265Nm
  • A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Fuel efficiency as low as 3.9L/100km

These numbers make it a perfect fit for Australian families looking to cut down on fuel costs without sacrificing everyday practicality or performance.

🛠 Why the Hybrid Seltos Makes Sense for Australia

The current Kia Seltos has proven itself as one of the most popular small SUVs on Australian roads, offering a versatile package with standout value. With hybrid SUV sales surging by 76% in 2024, Kia is clearly gearing up to compete directly with hybrid front-runners like the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Kona.

The Seltos shares its platform with the Kona, which already has a strong hybrid presence here. If history repeats itself – as it did with the Sportage and Tucson Hybrid – we’re likely to see a Seltos Hybrid landing at Tynan Kia Sutherland sooner rather than later.

💸 Competitive Pricing Expected

The current petrol Seltos starts at $30,050 before on-road costs, undercutting the Kona’s $32,500 petrol variant. By comparison, the Kona Hybrid starts at $36,500, with premium variants pushing above $45K.

Expect the Seltos Hybrid to hit a sweet spot in pricing, offering eco-conscious buyers a more affordable alternative to hybrid rivals – all backed by Kia’s 7-Year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty.

🔋 More Electrified Models on the Horizon

Kia’s push for electrification doesn’t stop at the Seltos. The brand is also rolling out hybrid and electric options across its global portfolio – from the Carnival Hybrid to the Sorento Hybrid, and even a battery-electric Tasman ute set to follow the diesel version launching in 2025.

At Tynan Kia Sutherland, we’re excited about what this means for our customers: more choice, greater efficiency, and smarter mobility options for every kind of driver.
